Why you shouldn’t book a Boudoir Session

Why you shouldn’t book a Boudoir Session…

Okay okay, we all know there are absolutely zero reasons why you shouldn’t book a Boudoir Session, but these three factors do contribute to not making it happen.  These 3 things stand in your way.  C’mon, every woman out there really does want to experience at least one boudoir session in our lifetime. Who would turn down a day dedicated to you? To be pampered with having your hair and makeup done, to dress up in lingerie you know you’d never buy, and to be told you’re beautiful over and over again. I mean….you’d be crazy to pass that up!

But….there are a few things that prevent that from happening.  And a lot of it has to do with our own securities and guilt.  I can completely understand that.  Why spend the money on a boudoir shoot when there are other bills to be paid and kids to be fed. I get it. Really, I do. Because I think the same way.  But…..my mindset has changed a little bit over the past few years. It’s all about what your priorities are.  I’m not saying this because I am a boudoir photographer and this is my living…I’m saying it because someone else put it into perspective for me before I had my own boudoir shoot done.  I’ll get into that later on the details of how invigorating it was, but for now, let’s see if my 3 reasons why people don’t have a boudoir session sounds familiar to you because you may have some of the same concerns.

FEAR:

Yep. Fear of the unknown. It’s a real thing. Not knowing what to expect is the greatest fear there is.  When it comes to boudoir photography, I’m sure you’ve seen photos of other women that have had it done and think to yourself, “Oh my gosh, they are beautiful. I could never do that or look that good”.  Wrong!  You can!! That is what your photographer is for. They specialize in posing and lighting and flattering angles to make you see how darn beautiful you are! Sometimes you just need to see yourself from a different perspective.  You need to see yourself in a different light — get it? Lighting…photography…pun intended. Ok I’ll stick to my day job. LOL.
-Fear of putting yourself in a completely vulnerable position where you are basically wearing nothing in front of a total stranger.  I can understand that too. Maybe it helps that you don’t know me personally? I think I’d rather choose someone I don’t know, than my coworker that knows my kids and dogs and my personal life who is learning photography and needs a model to practice on.  Nope, that’s what model calls are for. Let other people volunteer for that. Because let me tell you, work will never be the same HAHA.  But as for stripping down to nothing, you don’t have to if you don’t want to!  Some women are very comfortable and will get naked in front of a photographer no problem but there are others who are a bit more modest and that is perfectly fine! I work within your comfort zone. You want to incorporate oversized sweaters and button up shirts and one piece lingerie? Sure! Let’s do it!  I send out a questionnaire to you beforehand getting to know your comfort level ahead of time so there aren’t any surprises or you have to feel forced into anything you don’t want to.  I am here for you. You booked a boudoir session with me for a reason. To trust me and make you feel comfortable. And that is exactly what I plan on doing.
-Fear of not knowing how to pose and you don’t know how to look “sexy”. Wrong again!  That’s my job! I will show you posing every step of the way from pointing your toes to facial expressions.  As for that sexy look — there are breathing techniques and ways to completely relax your body to make your face look sultry and completely relaxed.
-Don’t quite have the nerve yet? How about joining my Women’s only private Facebook group to get hyped up? Boudoir by NinaRose VIP group.  Here you will hear stories from women who have had the boudoir experience with me and see a little behind the scenes action.  And with time, something will tell you, ok it’s time to book!
– Other people might see my photos! What will my church think? Or my family?  Listen, you and your images are safe with me. They are never shared publicly unless you give me permission to do so.  They are for your eyes only (or your significant other) and no one will ever need to know you took this step and came out of your comfort zone.  And guess what? Most of my clients have that same fear. They always say, “Man, if so and so knew I was having this done, he/she would be so ashamed”.  Would they though?  Would they look down on you for embracing your femininity and sharing yourself with your life partner? No, I don’t think so.  I’ve even had a head secretary of her church come to me for a session and she said she felt amazing doing it.  The only thing they’ll notice is a different pep in their step.  The amount of confidence you gain from a session like this is unexplainable.  I also think fear can lead us to make excuses as to why we should or shouldn’t do something. And for this, thinking that you shouldn’t have a boudoir session because you don’t know how you’ll look or how it’ll go, is definitely standing in your way.   It is the job of your Boudoir photographer to pose you in the most flattering way possible to make you see yourself as one sexy lady!
-Fear of letting go:  It’s hard to get out of your own head. Sometimes we can have guilt for taking time to do something for ourselves or to spend that much money on ourselves.  You have to realize, you don’t do it often and once in a while, it’s ok!  If you’re interested in a great Amazon find, I suggest the book, “Get Out of Your Own Way” .  You can find the link here. It can help you overcome many things that could be blocking you from accepting self love and self worth.  It may be attributing to the reason of why you shouldn’t book a boudoir session for yourself because you don’t feel worthy of one.

“What if I fall….?”

“But darling, what if you FLY”

Don’t let fear keep you from experiencing something

MONEY:

The number one stopper right here is the price of a session. Boudoir photography is known for being expensive. But there’s a reason for that. With a luxury experience, there comes a luxury price attached to it.  It’s not just a family photo where you spend 30 minutes posing each family member and getting candids with the parents and kids. This is 3 hours or more to give you an experience you won’t forget.  Lots of preparation goes into each individual Boudoir session.  The session is catered to you and what you are looking to get out of it. There is prep work for the studio. I offer complimentary beverages, access to my client closet sizes XS-3X, a 2 hour boudoir session, professional posing advice, a complimentary gift and a one week turnaround time for your photo reveal.  With that comes professionally printed and hand crafted photo albums that are jaw dropping and will last a lifetime.  And don’t forget the added confidence you leave with after your session. 😉  With all of that combined, I’d consider it priceless.

When it comes to money, it is different for everyone.  And it all comes down to what you value something as.  If you want a safe car for your new driver at home, you won’t buy one for $1500 that has over 200,000 miles on it. You will save up to purchase a more reliable vehicle with more safety features and a warranty.  With that, comes a higher price.  Same for a new cellphone, or a new purse, or the beach vacation you’ve been wanting to take.  You save up for them because they are important to you.  The same goes for Boudoir sessions. If you wanted to make it happen and see value in the purchase, you will find a way to make it happen. And as a bonus, many photographers offer pre-payment plans that will help you pay a little at a time in a way that fits into your budget.  If you still think that is the reason why you shouldn’t book a boudoir session, then maybe it’s something to consider in the near future when you feel more comfortable financially.

LOOKS:

Let’s face it, the average woman’s body is not a size zero. But every adult thinks they need to look like a supermodel to have a Boudoir session.  This is 100% false.  The average adult who is a hardworking mother, wife, and worker deserves this more than anything!  When do women ever find time to do something for themselves? Especially if you’re a mother to young children it’s hard to find time. But with being a mother and with age comes normal changes of the body.  Ladies, most of you have had children. You have created life! Embrace it!  For others there are body changes that come with age, hormonal changes, stress, hormonal imbalances with thyroid/metabolism, medications that contribute to weight gain, and just plain old life!  We are more sedentary as time passes. Many of us sit at desks for work or are home with our children.  Many women tell me, “I need to lose some weight first before I ever book a session.”   Let’s be honest with ourselves.   There is no better time than now!  You don’t want to look back 5, 10, or 20 years from now thinking ughhh why didn’t I do it then?   This is another reason why you need to have trust in your photographer. I will find the best lingerie choices for you. I will pose you in ways that are most flattering for your body type and work within your comfort zone.  In that questionnaire I sent you, you’ve told me the best features you love about yourself, and you told me the features you’re not fond of.  So let’s work together to show off those best features of yours and not extenuate the ones you don’t want to.  You are how you’re supposed to be. Don’t make that the excuse of why you shouldn’t book a boudoir session because that’s just plain silly!
