Boudoir bed poses are what you think of when you think of boudoir images. Using a bed to create beautiful images is one of the simplest ways to show off your beautiful curves. Boudoir photography is all about creating gorgeous, intimate poses that capture your true personality. Whether you’re a first-time boudoir photographer or an experienced pro, bed poses are the perfect way to create stunning images that stand out from the rest. Here, we’ll cover everything you need to know about taking boudoir bed poses and how to make them look their best.

Boudoir Bed Poses: Lighting is Key

The lighting used for any photo shoot is very important. With boudoir photography, you are photographing your body and want to make it look the best possible way it can be. The right lighting can make all the difference in making your photos look natural and flattering. Natural light is ideal and can be achieved by using windows that have ample sunlight streaming through them. When working with artificial light, it’s important to use softboxes or umbrellas that will help soften the harshness of the direct light source. This will help bring out skin tones in a natural way while avoiding harsh shadows and over-exposure of certain areas of the body.  With both scenarios, the final result is still absolutely stunning.

Here in this Boudoir studio, I only use artificial lighting but you can see here the beautiful natural light flowing through the window.  This was taken at an old church that was renovated to become a photography studio that can be rented for certain occasions.

The image below illustrates one of the boudoir bed poses used with artificial/studio light:

You can see here in the image above how the light falls on certain areas. Here is one of the ultimate Boudoir bed poses. Light and shadows can be better controlled with studio lighting and strobes.  Either way, the images turn out amazing! Check out how you can incorporate sheets with a White Sheet Boudoir Session

Boudoir Bed Poses: Pose Matters

When it comes to posing for a boudoir bed pose, there are two main ways to approach it – either lying down or sitting up/leaning against something for support. If you choose to lie down, one great idea is to have your subject lay across and extend their body for an even look. For those who want something more active, having them sit up or lean against something like pillows can be a great option too! Just make sure your subject is comfortable and relaxed so they look natural in their photos!  Be aware of different camera angles with boudoir bed poses.  You want to form curves with the body so hand placement and leg placement is important. I like to give both hands something to do or place them somewhere on the body so the subject doesn’t appear “stiff”.  You can easily do this by having a hand in the hair or even grabbing onto a strap of the lingerie piece.

No matter which position makes you feel most comfortable with  boudoir bed poses, experiment and try new angles to get exactly what you’d like.  Also change it up a bit and be creative with Unique boudoir poses.

Boudoir Bed Poses: Wardrobe Choices

Another important element of achieving the perfect boudoir bed pose is wardrobe choices! Depending on your client’s comfort level and desired aesthetic, dresses, lingerie, robes – even men’s dress shirts – can all work well here. It’s important that your client feel comfortable in whatever clothing they choose since this will go a long way towards helping them relax into their poses and ultimately make for better photos overall!  Whatever you wear should fit your personality and you should feel comfortable in. Remember, the more awkward you feel in a pose, the sexier it is – I promise!  But when it comes to boudoir bed poses, the right outfit can take it to the next level.  Wondering which lingerie piece you should choose?  Try out this Lingerie For Your Body Type guide, or just simply ask your boudoir photographer for advice. That’s what they are there for!

You can see here in the image above, her bra and panty set is of a certain style. It works well here with these kinds of boudoir bed poses because there is a pop of color in her top piece and her bottoms have a perfect amount of fabric to give it that “sexy pull”.  A different outfit choice wouldn’t have worked as well in this pose. For this shot, angle your body towards the light and your bottom near the camera to give off those beautiful shadows which illuminate the perfect areas.

Boudoir Bed Poses: Using Props in Your Photos

Props are a great way to add another layer of interest to your boudoir bed poses. Try incorporating items like blankets, pillows, scarves, hats, jewelry, and more into your photos for an added touch of glamour and playfulness. You can even use props as creative framing devices like draping sheets over part of your subject’s body or using feathers to obscure parts of their face or body for an unexpected effect.  Here are two different boudoir bed poses using different Boudoir props:

You can see here that she is using a Spreader bar to add some extra flare to her image. This is completely optional, but to achieve this pose, lie on your belly with your legs slightly apart and raise that booty up. Again, take the image from the shadow side.

With these boudoir bed poses, she is on her back just using a sheet to cover certain parts of her body but accentuate the parts she wants shown.  You lie on your back for this pose, tilt your head so your neck is extended and arch your back.  Some boudoir bed poses are a little harder to achieve so you can vary it according to your comfort level. Never attempt a boudoir bed pose like this one without stretching a bit first.

Boudoir Bed Poses: Add some heels!

With these types of boudoir bed poses, wearing heels can really kick it up a notch.  Heels are known for being associated with being a woman or being more feminine so by adding a cute pair of heels, will make you feel even sexier.  Don’t have a cute pair? Head to your local thrift store because you can find a large selection of beautiful heels that are quite inexpensive, especially if you are purchasing them just for a boudoir photo shoot.  Here are some examples of boudoir bed poses using heels:
