White Sheet Boudoir Session

What’s a White Sheet Boudoir Session?

Well I’m sure you’ve guessed what a white sheet Boudoir session would be including…yep, a white sheet!  Of course any color sheet would do but there’s something so simple, yet sexy about a white sheet.  It’s not busy, there’s no pattern and it looks great with any skin tone.  The color white seems to signify purity and innocence. Let’s face it, there’s nothing really innocent about Boudoir sessions but with the way the sheet is used as a prop, we can make that happen.  The mind is a powerful tool and just by using something as simple as a sheet, it can signify innocence because it’s covering all of the right parts and leaving the rest to your imagination.

What’s great about white sheet boudoir sessions is that even though it appears as though the woman (or man) isn’t wearing anything underneath, they still can. The use of using a nude colored thong or pulling the straps down with a bra can cover/hide the undergarments while making the client still feel comfortable.  Let me show you what I mean.  Here are images from recent white sheet Boudoir sessions:

See how the sheet is draped perfectly across her body showing off her beautiful curves, yet covering the parts that would make her feel uncomfortable. I always love showing my clients the back of my camera during these types of shoots because they instantly fall in love.  Not with my photography, with themselves. It’s within that moment that they feel sexy and beautiful.  Most haven’t felt that way in a while. This is why I love  Boudoir Photography.  It has a deeper meaning and can truly empower a woman.   With this pose, the client can still wear a nude thong and pull it up and out of the way onto her hip, and pull bra straps down if she’s wearing one.   It’s very important to respect ones privacy if they choose to just wear the sheet. I give them the sheet beforehand and show them where it’ll be placed so I can turn away while they get into position. I can help with the final touches but want to still respect their body.

Here is an example of using just the sheet in front of the client.  It covers all areas, but gives off the illusion that they are bare underneath. In this circumstance, it’s hard to hide any undergarments but I still give them the sheet to position themselves beforehand to make them feel more comfortable.   This is a great pose for women who are a little bit more self conscious of their bodies and for “hiding” their belly.  I put the word “hiding” in quotation marks because we need to learn to embrace our bodies and love every part of us but there are certain areas we aren’t fond of.  It’s completely understandable.  So by using something to not accentuate the parts we aren’t fond of, it makes them less noticeable, therefore making the client feel better about themselves and feel sexy by showing off the features that they do love.    Remember, to really love ourselves  you Should Compliment Yourself daily.  The more you learn to love your flaws (which everyone has btw), you will grow to accept your body for what it is and how you’re meant to be.

Here, she was first in the position like the first image, then just laid onto her back for a different angle.  This is a great pose because it makes the hair look all messy and gives off that fresh morning look.  Depending upon comfort level, here is where you can show the top half in the photo or not. With the arm being up in that position, it’s easier to “squeeze the girls” together which helps defy gravity, if you know what I mean lol.

Here is a circumstance where it’s up to the client or not, how much they want to show of themselves. This particular client wanted to show more of her top half. She is a breast-feeding Mama and darn proud of it!  You go girl!  But I love how the sheet covers just a bit while also drawing attention to her hand within her hair. I just love the messy look!  There is so much variation during a white sheet boudoir session and every woman looks and feel differently with it and that’s what makes it so unique!  This was taken at a Bridal Shower lingerie event. It was so fun to do little Mini sessions with each of the girls at this loft downtown.

Another variation of the sheet used while she’s in a different position.

The same rule applies with Maternity Boudoir. The way the white sheet drapes beautifully showing off the silhouette of her beautiful baby bump.  This is why I love Boudoir photography with pregnant women. It shows off a whole new look than you see with outdoor photographs wearing those gorgeous gowns.  There’s something more intimate about this type of session and I feel like it really captures how beautiful a woman’s body can change during pregnancy.

Like I said before, during a white sheet Boudoir session, the possibilities are endless!  Here is a variation of getting her backside while still showing off the elongation of her body with the draped white sheet. It helps her feel more comfortable to be covered in the front which helps her body relax more for the photo.  So beautiful!

I hope that better explains what a white sheet Boudoir session is.  They are always a huge hit!  I have tried these types of sessions with both silk sheets and normal sheets.  While the silk is absolutely beautiful, it never gives the same effect to me as the thicker sheets do. But that’s just me and my preference.  If you want to try any of these at home before booking your Boudoir session, make sure to get the sheets that are soft.  The thicker, firmer sheets don’t work as well and don’t follow the curves of the body. They seem to be a bit more stiff. I have found the perfect ones that work for me from Amazon, click here for the exact sheets that I use here. I love that they are wrinkle free and very soft.  I have the King size, so you may want to go with the Queen size if that fits your bed better.  I like to have extra hanging off of the mattress for added effect in the my photographs.

Have fun experimenting at home with just a white sheet. You will see how beautiful you are. Embrace it, love it, own it. You are worth it!
