Boudoir Props
Boudoir props you didn’t even think that you needed for your photoshoot:
Do you NEED to use boudoir props during your photoshoot? Nope! But do they bring your photos to the next level? Yep! Even if the thought of props aren’t your thing, consider at least trying a few of them out during your shoot because you might surprise yourself. Usually when people think of Boudoir props, they think of crazy accessories like in 50 Shades of Grey. If that’s the look you’re going for, then I can make that happen, but if you wanted to be more modest and elegant, I have a few boudoir props that might work for you as well to keep it a little bit more PG. Like I’ve said before: each session is catered around you and your comfort level so I never want to make you feel too uncomfortable. Will I persuade you to step a bit out of your comfort zone? You betcha! That’s what you booked the session for, you want to try new things and challenge yourself in ways you never thought you would. This is why I will send you a pre-questionnaire beforehand to better get to know your comfort level and how you would like your session to be. So let’s take a look at the most common boudoir props here in studio that can take your images from amazing to jaw dropping.
How to Choose the Perfect Boudoir Props for Your Photoshoot
Boudoir photoshoots can be a great way to capture your beauty and confidence in a beautiful, intimate setting. But, in order to create the perfect boudoir look, it’s important to choose the right props. The right props will play an important role in creating the atmosphere you want for your photos. It will also bring out a side of you that you didn’t even know existed. It will also bring out your personality a bit more as well. Here are a few tips on how to choose the perfect boudoir props for your photoshoot:
Know Your Theme and Style
Before selecting any props for your boudoir photoshoot, it’s important to have an idea of what kind of look you’re going for. Think about what kind of theme or style you want – is it romantic or modern? Is it sexy or sultry? This will help guide you when choosing which props to use. You can even create your own Pinterest board with images that represent the feel you’re looking for in order to get a better sense of what you should go with. Choose Quality Boudoir Props That Fit Your Look
Once you know what kind of look and feel you’re going for, it’s time to start shopping around! (But first ask your photographer if he/she already has something like that in studio before you spend your money). Make sure that anything you purchase is appropriate for your photoshoot — please remember, your front lower half always needs to be covered as there are still rules and guidelines to boudoir photography.
Think About Lighting
When selecting props for a boudoir photoshoot, think about how they will react with light sources like lamps and overhead lighting fixtures. I’m not saying you need to know what lighting situation will be in the studio, but think about it when choosing certain pieces that will react to the light. Consider things like sparkles or reflective surfaces which could add an extra layer of detail when used correctly during photo shoots. Fortunately, the lighting in my studio is pretty dim so you won’t be blinded by extravagant sparkles – I actually encourage it. I love things that sparkle! I have seen all sorts of things brought in by clients that have rhinestones or sequins on them.
So now that we’ve got the basics covered, let’s dive into the top 11 Boudoir props here in studio that you can use:
Boudoir props #1 – The Bunny Mask
Ok, this is one of my favorites here in studio. And I don’t know why it’s often not picked but I love how it makes eyes pop. I always say during a session, “You’re already here, lets try it and if you don’t like it, then don’t choose that image, but you might surprise yourself and it could be one of your favorites. Let’s at least give it a go”. All of my past clients have heard that from me. Now is the chance to try it. I’d rather you try it and not like it, than leave thinking to yourself, I regret not doing it. There will be NO regrets here!
Here it is used again but gives off a different feel with how she is positioned on the floor with it using a different backdrop. It all goes off of the look you’re trying to make.
Boudoir props #2 – Handcuffs
We all know the classic Handcuffs. These are definitely popular in studio to give that extra flare and sexiness to the photos. They can also be used in several different ways to achieve different looks.
Boudoir props #3 – Spreader Bar
The spreader bar is a 50/50 choice here. I find that half of the woman want it, while the other half doesn’t even want to go near it. I get it, it’s intimidating. When I first ordered it and took it out of the box, I thought to myself “how the heck does this thing even work?” LOL. After some trial and error and some amazing boudoir photography clients dealing with my craziness trying to create some images with it, I think I finally have it down. I thank them immensely for allowing me to find different poses with it and for them being so patient with me. But this bar sure can create some amazing and HOT images. It can be used with both individuals and couples during their shoots.
Here it is in use during a steamy couples boudoir session:
Boudoir props #4 – Riding Whip & Choker
This here is a statement prop. It’s extremely sexy and gives off those 50 Shades vibes but again, women either like it or they don’t. And that’s ok! It’s one of those boudoir props that isn’t as versatile. It can be used a few different ways but not a bunch of variety like the other props.
This prop can be used individually and as a couple depending on which dominant/seductive vibe you’re willing to go for.
Boudoir props # 5 – Pearls
These beautiful strings of pearls are extremely elegant and dashing. Adding them to any portrait adds that flare of femininity. They are beautiful and always a client’s favorite. They can be used in so many different ways to give off different looks.
This pearl necklace is gorgeous and it takes elegance to the next level. It is a bit heavy in weight but once it’s on, it’s like an instant cape of glamour. Pair it with a crown and you are the ultimate package!
It’s beautiful with Maternity boudoir photography as well.
Make it become a pair or cuffs and the pearls become more spicey.
No matter what way the pearls are worn, they sure do make a statement!
Boudoir Props #6 – Sheets
Yep! You heard that right. Sheets are a powerful prop. They cover just the right areas while leaving the rest to your imagination. A little tease, if you will.
Using them in different ways gives off different vibes and these are ALWAYS chosen for my boudoir clients albums.
I think using the sheets are my favorite because there are SO many possibilities and creative ways to use them.
Boudoir Props #7 – Skirts and Tops
This skirt is beautiful. I bought it for the studio and again it’s not chosen often but when it is, I love it. It’s adjustable to size and I love how the rhinestones cascade down.
This rhinestone skirt is my preference over the other one because it makes every bum look so booty-licous!
This sequin top is gorgeous and adjustable to different sizes. It also looks great on all breast sizes no matter what size or shape.
Boudoir Prop Tip:
Feel free to bring any jewelry such as necklaces, bracelets, rings, or earrings. I do not have those in my studio but as you can see here in the photo above, adding those gold earrings completed the ensemble.
Boudoir props #8 – Heels
Heels are sexy! Adding them to a photo like this one kicks it up a notch! I do want to mention: if you want a photo like this one, it only works with a G-string thong and Stiletto heels. You will need to bring BOTH. I do not have a heels collection here in studio because there are so many different sizes, and I do not have thongs or G-strings. The thongs are on the list for you to bring, but if you’d like an image like this, you most definitely need a G-string because a thicker banded thong just will not work.
I had fun incorporating Christmas lights with these heels recently.
Boudoir props #9 – Fishnet Stockings
Fishnet stocks are also very versatile. You can wear them over undies, thongs, or even without anything underneath. I have them in my client closet and they fit bodies of all sizes from XS to even Maternity! There are so many shapes and patterns to fishnet stockings. Some women bring their own, but I also have some here if you’d like to give it a try.
We incorporated her friends Harley Davidson in this photo. His garage was nearby and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.
This was the first time I used them with a Maternity Boudoir session.
Boudoir Props #10 – Miscellaneous
Use anything that you can think of to pull off the look you’re going for!

Boudoir Props #11 – Men’s button up shirt or tie
It speaks for itself. There is nothing sexier than an oversized men’s button up dress shirt, am I right? Men love to see their women wearing their things. Even though I do have a white button up and a tie in studio, you may want to bring a few of your own because he’s going to want to see you wearing HIS things.
Incorporating a tie is a great touch especially paired with the button up shirt.
Using boudoir props is an excellent way to make your photos stand out from the crowd. When shopping for boudoir props, remember to choose items that reflect your own individual style while also fitting into the overall theme of the photo shoot. With a little bit of creativity and careful selection of props, your next photoshoot will be sure to turn heads!
