Tackling your fears and misconceptions about boudoir photography: Fear #1: Boudoir photography is only for skinny girls

Boudoir photography is for ALL women, regardless of their size or shape.  In fact, many of my clients come to me because they want to celebrate their curves! No matter your size or shape, you are beautiful and deserving of celebrating your body with a boudoir session.  The point of boudoir photography is to love yourself today, in the now as you are right at this very moment. If you think you need to look a different way to love yourself, let’s change that!  Look back at that girl in the mirror. What do you see?  This is the number one fear and misconception when it comes to boudoir photography.  If I had a quarter for every time I’ve heard, “I’d love to do a boudoir photography session, but I need to lose weight first”, I’d seriously be rich.  This is a huge misconception.  Let’s put it this way, if your best friend was the same exact body shape and size as you and did a boudoir session for herself, wouldn’t you agree that she looks amazing? We are our own worst critics when it comes to our own bodies and I’m here to tell you that boudoir photography can change just that! Let me help you see yourself in a different light! A Boudoir session can heal you in more ways than you think.  And once you realize that you are worthy of self love and body acceptance, that’s the first step in tackling your fears and misconceptions about boudoir photography.

Tackling your fears and misconceptions about boudoir photography: Fear #2: What if I don’t think I’ll look good in the photos?

Not everyone is photogenic, and I get that.  Also, not everyone is comfortable in front of a camera.  This self doubt happens to many, and this is why we are here to start tackling your fears and misconceptions about boudoir photography.  We see ourselves in mirrors with our reversed reflection, or see ourselves from a selfie or cell phone camera lens that is wide angle and distorted. We never see our TRUE selves.  This is why photography is so powerful and why Finding the right Boudoir photographer is important.  The right photographer will be an expert regarding posing, lighting, and facial expression techniques.  I’ll be honest when I say not everyone is photogenic, but is that because they don’t think that they or they just haven’t had the right guidance yet?  There are certain tips and pointers to help bring your photographic, sexy self out. Trust me and trust the hundreds of other women that would say the same thing that have previously had a boudoir photography session with  me.  The right lighting is vital when it comes to portraits, especially intimate ones.  Knowing the right settings to adjust on your camera is crucial to obtain that amazing lighting. Give it a shot!  What’s the worst that could happen….you can’t recognize yourself because you look THAT good?

Tackling your fears and misconceptions about boudoir photography: Fear #3: You have to be young to have a boudoir photography session

Absolutely not! Age is just a number, my dear. I have had clients in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and even 60s! There is no age limit on feeling sexy and confident in front of the camera.  It’s all in how you feel about yourself.  Every woman at every age deserves to feel beautiful!  To prove that, here are: Women over 50 Knoxville Boudoir Photos.

boudoir photography: tackling your fears and misconceptions

Tackling your fears and misconceptions about boudoir photography: Fear #4: Do I have to get naked?

You don’t have to be nude for your shoot—in fact, many women choose to keep their clothes on throughout the entire experience. It’s entirely up to you how much (or how little) you want to show.  Boudoir photography sessions are each uniquely different and catered around your comfort level. You should never feel like you are being forced to get down to the bare minimum unless you absolutely want to.   This is why this question is a common fear and misconception in itself because most of the images shown regarding boudoir photography, have half naked women in them.  And that’s ok! Those people wanted their images to be shown.  As for the other half of women, they don’t want to publicly share their images and they have that right.  This is an intimate, personal type of session and is for your eyes only (and your photographer lol).   Go on Google and search for boudoir photography with clothing.  Boudoir shoots are not always sexy. While it’s true that boudoir photographs can be sensual or even erotic, they don’t have to be. It’s up to you how sexy you want your photos to be. If you’re not comfortable being nude or semi-nude, that’s perfectly okay! There are plenty of ways to capture sensuality without showing too much skin. Your photographer will work with you to capture the level of sexiness that makes you feel comfortable. I promise you, no matter what you’re wearing either it be an oversized sweatshirt or a cute pair of pajamas, you will still look sexy! Here are: 10 Boudoir Photos that Keep it Classy.

Tackling your fears and misconceptions about boudoir photography: Fear #5: I don’t have a significant other to give the images to

This is one of the hardest when tackling fears and misconceptions about boudoir photography. Many people think that boudoir is only something that married couples do as part of a “spice up the bedroom” type of scenario. While there’s nothing wrong with that (I’ve photographed plenty of couples!), boudoir is definitely not limited to people in relationships. Whether you’re single, married, divorced, etc., YOU can do boudoir! I often hear single women say that they want to wait until they’re in a relationship to do boudoir, but why wait? This isn’t just something that you do for someone else; it’s something that you do for YOURSELF. It’s a way to celebrate your body and your femininity. It’s an experience that should be savored and enjoyed. So if you’ve been wanting to do boudoir but have been holding off because you think you need to be in a relationship, I say go for it! You don’t need anyone else’s permission (or approval) to celebrate your own body; just go out there and do it! You don’t have to be married or in a relationship to book a boudoir shoot. These shoots are also popular among women who want to celebrate their own sexuality and feel confident and beautiful. Whether you’re in a relationship or single, boudoir photography can be for you!
